Meeting Helsby Methodist's new Methodist Minister is like feeling a breath of fresh air, for Rev Steve Santry is a man with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. With his wife Lorna and children Beth and Kieran, Steve moved here in August from Heswall and was immediately aware that he now had a younger congregation and potentially lots of opportunities to develop new ways of reaching out into the community.
Born in Grimsby, Steve originally trained and worked as an architectural technician. he was drawn to the ministry at the age of 18, training alongside ordinands from other denominations at the Ecumenical Colege in Birmingham. This experience made him passionate about exploring how best the Church can work and fit into the community.
He is particularly energised by working with young people, is already involved with youth football and in his old parish was a Beaver and Cub leader. Steve describes himself as a gregarious extravert who enjoys people and being part of a team. He is also a man of surprising talents: a brass band trombone player with a penchant for Glenn Miller, a long distance cyclist, who also enjoys sea fishing - and when he gets the chance, the odd game of golf.
"We have settled well into the village" said Steve. " The children are very happy at Hornsmill School and we have been made to feel very welcome by the congregation"
